FLY IN THE FREEDOM ...theme of ''ROUGE''
Artist: Tabitha Fair/Todd Cooper

sonicmusicmusings:

I think this is a good way to jazz up your evening.

This is Rouge’s “image” song, or theme song from Sonic Adventure 2. You don’t actually hear it all that much, at least the vocal version, and it’s a shame because it’s absolutely lovely. I’m a bit of a sucker for samba grooves, but I think my favorite part is the instrumentation. The upright bass sliding around, vibes, electric keyboard, acoustic guitar,  the harp at the beginning kicking it down, triangle, I think there’s clave in there as well. It’s a really great mix, not to mention all the horn kicks and the flute solo near the end.

The vocal is really nice as well, very smooth, even when she hits that high note at the end of the first chorus, that lovely major seventh on top, mm, I love it! The break down at the end where there’s a lot of scatting vocals is great too. The song itself is saucy too, just like our favorite well-endowed femme fetale. I really like how they kept this samba theme to all of her actual levels in the game as well, it creates a nice coherency! Just like Knuckles has those raps, Sonic has the upbeat rock (as well as Tails, but of a different flavor), and so forth. This is such a great jam, is basically what I’m saying!

“I’m ready to gamble, it’s time to play the game.”

[…] and Mushroom Hill Act 2 from Generations.

- alviestrums

And here’s the second one!

I really dig the groove to this track! I think it’s the drums and bass that really make it happen for me, with the slap bass and the laid back beat. It’s really heavy on two and four! The melody line emulates what was heard in the original track, and it’s a very cool touch, while still keeping the same sort of vibe from the original. The comping and padding has a lot of reverb onto it (aside from the distorted guitar in the back). Another thing about the drums! I’m really into the ride cymbal on the offbeats, I think it creates such a nice groove, and it’s all very in the pocket. The melody is really elaborate, while still coming back to its main premise. It’s very groovy!

On The Edge...for Eternal Engine
Artist: Jun Senoue

sonicmusicmusings:

I request final fortress and eternal engine.

- mediarebel

Happy Friday, everyone! While Final Fortress has been done, I can supply you with Eternal Engine!

I love the opening this one has, it’s really driving and forceful. Lots of harmonized guitar lines, in the same distortion level that is normal for all the Tails levels in this game. I like the little synth aspects going on as well—it really emphasizes that we’re in space, that futuristic techno feel. The bass is really busy in the background, without being too overpowering; the most it’s heard is during the synth lead, during the second half of the melody. The drums are pretty straight forward, except for the top and the fills spread out throughout the track. This track has an overall major feel, standard for the Tails levels, and while the vibe is similar to Sonic’s levels, it has its own flair that distinguishes itself from them. Kind of what Tails journey is all about!
